报告提要:

Damage-diagnosis algorithms in structural health monitoring of civil infrastructural systems - either currently used or in research phase - are mostly based on vibration principle and data analysis of recordings collected from a sensory system. That is, changes in the mechanical properties resulting from damage (e.g., reduced stiffness due to structural/material non-linearity) may be inferred from changes in vibration-based damage indices (e.g., modal frequency or curvature of mode shape) identified from Fourier spectrum analysis of recordings. While great advances have been made in vibration-based approaches, there exist some key issues in characterizing and quantifying the damage, which are believed solvable for enabling the diagnosis more efficient and effective.

This lecture will present some advances in wave-based system identification and damage detection in materials and structures. The first part of the presentation will show improved impact-echo approach for non-destructive testing and evaluation, the second a model of wave propagation in layered media for the use in acoustic emission studies, and the third the system identification of multi-story building using seismic recordings.

报告人简介:

Dr. Zhang received his B.S and M.S degrees respectively in 1984 and 1987 from Tongji University, Shanghai, China and Ph.D. degree from Florida Atlantic University in 1992. He is registered Professional Civil Engineer in California. Before joining Colorado School of Mines, Dr. Zhang had worked in Princeton University for three and a half years as Post-Doctoral Research Associate, and in University of Southern California for two years as Research Assistant Professor. Dr. Zhang’s research interest resides in continuum mechanics, vibration theory, wave propagation, stochastic processes and fields, and advanced data processing and analysis for sensory systems, disaster assessment and mitigation, and structural/geotechnical nondestructive evaluation and health monitoring. He is author of 1 edited book, 1 book chapter, 1 edited journal, 1 patent, 48 journal papers and numerous papers in conference proceedings and edited books. Dr Zhang is the recipient of 1997 IASSAR Junior Research Prize in Stochastic Dynamics for his contribution to the solutions of seismic wave propagation through stochastic media, bestowed by International Association for Structural Safety and Reliability (IASSAR).
